Are you nervous yet?

Nervousness is a key part of life - and more importantly for a student, a key component to the application process.

I know, why does the application process have to exist? Can't we all just get in? Hell, if the application process has to happen, why can't we find out right away!? I know, it's no fun.

About four years ago I was in the same position of many people who read this blog. I know, it's tough. What makes it probably even tougher is the fact that I know many of the people who are reading your essays and applications.

I know it's getting later and later and the second semester of high school is on its way, but you have to be patient in the process. It's easier said than done, but you really have to be. During this time, remember that you have time to get in. Just because you haven't heard back yet, doesn't mean you have not gotten in.

Also, don't forget about your other schools. I'm sure many of you applied to many schools, and there are a lot of great schools out there, but with Emory getting harder and harder to get into, we don't always get our top choice. Don't forget your back ups, and work on those. Life tosses us some interesting curve balls - just go with them.

Stay calm, and just wait it out. The anticipation sucks right now, but the more it builds up the better it feels when you get that goal.

You wanna talk anticipation? I sent out my application for medical schools in the beginning of July - I've had a few interviews, but no "yes". I have not gotten any "no" responses, but no "yes". You maybe have been waiting a whole 2 or three months, I've been waiting almost half a year. :)

wow, good luck with those Med school applications! do you have any idea what Emory likes most in an applicant? Would a well written essay make up for a not so strong GPA? Thanks!

Colleges are no longer JUST looking for that student who has a 4.0 and a perfect SAT score. Sure that would be nice, but the reality of it is that not ALL students are like that.

So, in that, you really want to show the most complete picture of you possible. Getting involved, volunteering, doing things for your school community, and writing a well written essay that helps separate you from the rest will all help.

If your GPA isn't as strong, you really want to try and work at it (if you have time), but there are other areas of your application that you can make stronger to help compensate for that area.

Thanks for the question! Keep them coming!

Rajiv!
It's March 24th right now, and I'm STILL waiting for a response for Emory! I don't think I can breathe. On the Emory App, there was a box I had an option to mark to show if I knew a person that was currently a part of the Emory community, and I wrote your name down! Needless to say, I felt proud about that. :) Ahh, the anticipation is killing me - have you heard from any medical schools yet? I'm sure that Emory for Graduate school wouldn't be that bad - they ARE awesome in that field, after all. I'll just say that I needed some pathology work done earlier this year, and they sent my biopsy sample to Emory! I know... AMAZING.
Anyway, I'll let you know what happens - I'll never forget the AMAZING tour you gave my mother and I. (She was SO impressed with you!) We're convinced that we'll go into a random hospital somewhere in a few years and see you there, looking FABULOUS.
<3333!!! :)
